Chatshelf: ChatGPT Folders, Export & Search for Claude, Gemini: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-14
Who we are
Chatshelf is a browser extension published by Exochard, the publisher named on its store listings. Exochard decides what data Chatshelf handles and is responsible for it. Contact: [email protected]
This policy covers the extension, the Chatshelf API it talks to (hosted on Cloudflare at exotools-api.exochard.workers.dev; older versions call gigscope-api.exochard.workers.dev, which forwards to it) and the website https://chatshelf-app.pages.dev, including its roadmap and goodbye pages. It describes every kind of data Chatshelf collects, how it is used, where it is stored, how long it is kept and who it is shared with. Chatshelf collects no data that is not listed here.
What the extension does
It adds a section next to the chat list on chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com and grok.com (grok.com in the Chrome and Firefox builds). It reads the list of chats the site shows in its sidebar (title and link) and, to export or search, the text of the chat you have open. It lets you file chats into folders, pin them, search them and export them. It only calls a chat site's own pages when you start a history pull, as described below, and does not delete or change chats on the sites. No part of a chat is sent to us.
Summary of the data Chatshelf handles
- Authentication information: your Pro licence key, sent to the Chatshelf API to check it.
Chatshelf does not collect your browsing history, health, financial or payment information, location, or the content of pages other than the chat pages described here; the text of your chats stays in your browser. It does not sell data, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it to decide creditworthiness or for any purpose unrelated to organizing, searching and exporting your chats.
Data stored only in your browser
These stay in your browser's extension storage. Folders and pins are never sent to us:
- The list of chats it has seen: site, title and link.
- Your folders, colours, pins and prompts.
- The text of the chats you open, so that you can search and export it later. It is kept for up to 5,000 chats, and the oldest are removed when that is exceeded. The Free plan searches the 100 most recent of them; Pro searches all of them.
- Find all chats: when you start one, the ids of the chats it has read and the account name you give it. It scrolls the chat list on the page you have open and sends nothing.
- Answer clips: the passage you clip (up to 2,000 characters each, up to 1,000 clips), with the chat's title and link.
- Chats you imported that are waiting to be filed.
- If you import a conversations.json from a ChatGPT or Claude data export, the text of those chats, stored like the chats you open and counted in the same 5,000.
- Save all past chats (ChatGPT and Claude): when you start one, the list of conversations, your place in it and the dates of the chats already read. It asks the site for your conversations from the page you have open, signed in as you, one request every 1.5 seconds, and stores them like the chats you open. It stops when you press Stop or Esc, or when the site asks it to slow down. Nothing is sent to us.
- Folder sync, when you turn it on: folder names, colours and which folder each chat is in, in your browser's own sync storage, which your browser keeps for your account. Chat titles and text are not in it.
- One-line summaries, when you turn them on and your browser has a built-in summariser: made by the browser on your device and kept with the chat. Nothing is sent.
- Your licence key, trial dates and the random install id.
- Settings and small markers: chats you chose to skip, the date of your last backup, the install date, and flags for the what's-new note and the rating prompt.
- A search index of your saved chats (IndexedDB database chatshelf-index), built from the saved text and rebuilt when removed.
- A reviewed batch of suggested folders for not-filed chats, and your last import with copies of the chats it replaced, so you can take it back.
- Unlimited storage: the saved chat text and clips can exceed the browser's usual storage limit.
- Backup files and exports are created only when you ask, and are saved where you choose.
- If you import folders from an AI Toolbox backup, Chatshelf reads the file you pick, in your browser, and keeps only the folder names and which chats go in them. The file is not sent anywhere.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.
Permissions
- storage: keeps the data listed above in your browser.
- unlimitedStorage: lets the saved chat text of up to 5,000 chats grow beyond the usual storage limit. Nothing more is stored, and the stored text is not sent to us.
Data that leaves your browser, and why
Licence check (authentication information)
- What is sent: your licence key, the product name, and a random id made when the extension was installed.
- When: when you activate Pro, and at most once a day after that. The free trial starts and ends on your device and sends nothing.
- Why: to confirm the key is valid with Payhip, the seller of record for Pro passes, and to count each browser once, so entering the key again in the same browser never takes a second of its 3 seats.
- Where it is kept: the Chatshelf API keeps the list of install ids that use a key, filed under a one-way hash of the product name and key; the key itself is not stored. The list expires 400 days after the key was last checked.
Uninstall page
When you remove the extension, the browser opens https://chatshelf-app.pages.dev/bye. The address carries nothing: no version, no id. The page counts its view with Cloudflare Web Analytics and sends nothing else; it offers a link to leave a review in the store of the browser you use, an email link and a reinstall link.
Roadmap page
The roadmap page at https://chatshelf-app.pages.dev/roadmap shows planned and shipped changes. Loading it asks the API for the list of items and sends only the product name. The website sets no cookies. It counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and keeps nothing that identifies you.
When you buy a pass
You buy Pro on Payhip, which handles the payment, your name, your email address and the licence key under its own privacy policy. Payhip then sends the Chatshelf API a notice about the order. The API keeps the product code of the pass, the price, the currency, whether a coupon was used and the order number for 35 days, plus a daily count of sales for 400 days. Your name, email address, network address and licence key are not stored by Chatshelf.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the services that run Chatshelf, and only for the purposes above:
- Payhip, to check licence keys and sell passes: https://payhip.com/privacy
- Cloudflare, which hosts the Chatshelf API and the website: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
We do not sell or rent data, do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and do not transfer it for any other purpose. We would disclose data only if the law requires it.
How data is protected
All traffic between the extension, the Chatshelf API and the services above uses HTTPS. The Chatshelf API keeps licence keys and network addresses only as one-way hashes.
Your choices and rights
- See or delete your local data: uninstall the extension, or clear its data in your browser's extension settings.
- Ask a question or free a licence seat: write to us at [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.
- If you live in the EU or the UK, you also have the rights the GDPR gives you, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Chatshelf is a tool for people who use AI chat sites and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. A change that adds a new kind of data ships only with an extension update whose store listing describes it.
